Gum Series FAQ #1: Mertsan (Konvoy) Covers

Mar 10 2010

This post will have some additional information to mertsan konvoy series, already posted here, and I do not title it as another post in FAQ series  about gum. So as I mentioned in earlier post, I will show some covers from mertsan series. This show that gum series is not right called as mertsan, because it has different, and corrent name, konvoy.  Mertsan is just a producer, as Kent is producer of turbo gum.

Here you go. It is believed that this cover belongs to 20.000 Daca or IMpreuna series, and released at year 1995.

Another cover example I have and show you here, should be from series 250.000 1-50, production date showed as year 2001.

Why it is from series 1-50? Because last series known produced from mertsan konvoy is 1-66, and it dated as year 2006. Next cover will show you this.

This information appears to be accurate, because covers that I got from one fellow collector, was personally wrapped from gums, bought at local store. Yes, just few years ago there were mertsan konvoy gum available to buy in some local countries as Turkey and such. In fact is was started producing in about year 2003, and lasted till about 2006.

And this is about all information, that everybody collecting mertsan konvoy series should know. If someday I will find some new covers, or get any new information about mertsan gums, I will post it here.

Another post in the series, what do we drive. This time I will present one from Latvia. Ladies and Gentelmen, Alkin.

His ride, AUDI TT, with some modifications:

  • Rieger full body kit
  • ABT chip
  • H&R -30mm springs
  • HK intake
  • Rieger exaust
  • Nothelle rear spoiler
  • Keskin 18 wheels
  • Lambo doors
  • Quaife ATB Helical LSD Front Differential
  • Oettinger front grill

Personally I would go for different wheels, a little bit less bling bling, and the owner said I’m not the first saying that, so he will consider. Anyway, it’s always nice to see some nice cars on the streets.

Gum Series FAQ #1: Mertsan (Konvoy)

Hi there. Let’s start new series of posts, where I would like to give some more details about one or another gum series, sub series, bonus series and such things. And let’s start with Mertsan series. In first part of FAQ about Mertsan, I will show how those series should be divided. If someone is not yet familiar with it, there are 4 different collectible series of this gum, commonly called Mertstan. In second part I will show you some gum covers of Mertsan, and we will see that this series have another official title, Konvoy. But this will be next time, today let’s talk about inside papers.

As should be known, there are 4 different collectible series of Mertsan:

  • Mertstan 20.000 Daca
  • Merstan 20.000 IMpreuna
  • Mertsan 250.000 1-66
  • Merstan 250.000 1-50

Mertstan 20.000 Daca – most common series. If you could find that someone have some Merstan for exchange, 90% of them, if not all, will be from this series. It is possible to collect them all, just few numbers are more hard to get than others. Why it should be called this way? Look at the picture, there are 3 columns on the top, first have numbers part of title, 3rd column have first word Daca. And we get full title, Mertsan 20.000 1-50 Daca. As in first 2 series, those with number 20.000, have both 1-50, so we can skip this number.

Mertstan 20.000 IMpreuna – less common series. Pictures same as in Daca series, just we have different word in 3rd column, and pictures itself is harder to get. Also for some reasons not everybody who collect 20.000 Daca, wants to collect also 20.000 IMpreuna.

“What you gonna do, when all be collected”?

Feb 11 2010

After completing turbo sport Russian series, already few people asked me the same thing:

what you gonna do when all be collected?

My answer was:

turbo 1-50, turbo power, turbo covers.. long way till that. after finishing bi-bib, lazer center, kobra blue, mertsan 4 series and TAXI 1-170, i will think about.

Here I will post my extended answer to this.

I think you all might know what all those titles stands for, and what series it represents. But just in case you don’t, or maybe 4 different mertsan series seems confusing to you, I will explain. And this wish list somehow represents what I like to collect after turbo.

Turbo 1-50

Legendary turbo series, old and rare and painfully hard to get. I have completed first half of this series, and now have 26 different. Still 24 to go. It is possible to collect this series, but it need some very good luck to do that. I know it happens sometimes, and I hope it will repeat few times more. Current missing list can be found here http://need.turbogum.com/#the-turbo

Turbo power

It’s stickers, well know by it’s name turbo power. Originally made by Kent company in mid 90’s. Who do collect turbo papers, those want to collect power stickers as well. Hard to get item, not so rare, just not very common. I do happen to have some of them for exchange if anybody interested. There are two types of them, original Power numbers 1-259, and Turbo Power, numbered 148-259, those pictures are the same as Power stickers. Missing list here http://need.turbogum.com/power-stickers Still have many to finish, as any as I could find. There are still few missing stickers waiting for me, so missing list can change in near future.

Turbo covers

I think i’m the only (correct me if I’m wrong) so much interested in turbo covers, that I have made dedicated website for them, that also acts like my missing list: http://covers.turbogum.com I have found many of my missing covers, time by time, and there are still many covers left to find. As always, when you are closer to the end, there are much more difficult to get what you need. If anybody have something from my missing, give me know.

Bi-Bib

Nice and cool cars from the 70’s. One of my favorite (you might guess) gum series. I have some story told about my bi-bib gum papers here, and I’m now missing about 10 items to this series http://need.turbogum.com/auto-moto#bi-bib

Lazer with center text

This lazer series, featuring various war machines, happen to be somehow rare, and not so ofter you can find them. They are just cool, nothing special. I’m collecting them just for fun, and to finish them. How they look like I did show here and my current missing list of this series can be found here http://need.turbogum.com/auto-moto#lazer-center-text Missing count: 17.

Kobra blue text

Same thing as with Lazer. We have Kobra, and we have bonus blue Kobra. Black simple Kobra is collection of 100 items. Blue bonus Kobra is collection of 50 items.  Missing list here http://need.turbogum.com/auto-moto#kobra-blue Missing count: have almost half series.

Mertsan 4 series

Mertsan 20.000 Daca 1-50, Mertsan 20.000 IMpreuna 1-50, Mertsan 250.000 1-50. Mertsan 250.000 1-66. Anybody have some questions? Missing list somewhere around here: http://need.turbogum.com/auto-moto#mertsan-20-000-daca

TAXI 1-170

This series is one of those rare and super cool. Also expensive and hard to find. I should get some of them soon in few weeks, and I will write more info about them. Missing list here, and still many many to collect.

So here’s what I will be collecting for ages, and I do not think that ALL will be collected someday. Collecting is more fun in progress rather than completed result. So happy collecting.

Turbo 2003 Sport RUS completed!

Feb 07 2010

Yes, finally, last items arrived. After so many years, it’s completed.  It took for me nearly 5 years to finish it.

And here’s some history. Just about 5 years ago I did some exchange. With turbo 2003. In those days we thought just one 2003 series exists. Me and guys from South thought (knew) about currently known Turkish edition, friends from the East had their Russian edition. International exchanges was just beginning, and I did one. And received different items than I expected. After that exchange we checked what we have, and it appeared we had two different series. Some time 4 years ago everybody agreed that Russian edition is more rare, less common and more valuable than Turkish one. In 2-3 or more times.

So, here is it. Russian turbo sport completed. Turkish turbo sport and super completed. 3 items to go for Russian turbo super edition. 6 new more items in my turbo collection.

I’m now open for propositions in exchange in Russian turbo sport and super I have for exchange into something else, not just another turbo. Because to find something for me gets harder and harder. Sorry. For example I like bibib, lazer with center text, taxi, blue kobra, if you know what I mean.
